Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple, also known as Daksha mandir haridwar is located in Kankhal, a town near Haridwar in Uttarakhand, India According to Hindu mythology, Daksha Prajapati, the father of Goddess Sati (the first wife of Lord Shiva), organized a grand yagna (sacrifice) but did not invite Lord Shiva. When Sati learned about this, she felt deeply hurt and went to the yagna against Shiva’s wishes. Unable to bear the humiliation meted out to her husband, Sati self-immolated in the sacrificial fire.
